Local woman will head CT Audubon board

Members of the Connecticut Audubon Society have elected Southport resident Kathleen Van Der Aue, a retired lawyer, to head the organization’s Board of Directors. She becomes the eighth woman in the Connecticut Audubon’s 120-year history to hold that position. At the Society’s Annual Meeting Oct. 20, members also elected Pamela Fraser-Abder, a leading science educator and Easton resident, as vice chair. Five new board members were also elected. Although women’s leadership has been part of Connecticut Audubon since the beginning, it is the first time that women have held the top two governance posts concurrently.Connecticut Audubon itself was founded in 1898 by Mabel Osgood Wright, a prolific nature writer.
