BRIDGEPORT — A city man was arrested early Saturday after leading police investigating a potential shooting on a chase, according to Bridgeport police.
The city’s emergency communications center received a ShotSpotter activation on Center Street near the Greene Homes at 1:38 a.m., according to Scott Appleby, the city emergency management director.
Police arriving at the scene saw a person, later allegedly identified as Joshua Hernandez, 32, “placing a firearm” in his waistband, Appleby said.
He “proceeded to speed away on a motorcycle,” chased by officers onto Route 8, then the Merritt Parkway.
Milford police later informed the department that the individual had crashed in the city.
No gun was found at the scene, Appleby said.
“Bridgeport PD was able to identify the party, detain the party with the assistance of Milford PD, and the party’s motorcycle was towed to the police garage,” said Appleby. “On-scene reports indicated no parties were injured, and the party did not shoot at officers as reported in media outlets.”
Stratford police Capt. Frank Eannotti issued a statement Saturday morning, noting that town police were not involved in the gunfire.
Hernandez was charged with operating an unregistered vehicle, operating without insurance, driving with a suspended license, reckless driving, engaging police in a pursuit, six counts of failure to obey traffic control signals and two counts of failing to obey a stop sign, Appleby said.
His bond was set at $20,000.
