Ansonia’s high school juniors buck the trend with rising SAT scores

ANSONIA -High school juniors here bucked the downward trend by recording increases in both their Math and English SAT scores, according to statistics released by the state Board of Education. Those results show the juniors averaged 461 in math up 15 points from their 2016-17 average and increased 11 points in English Language Arts to 489 from the 478 last year. When these two are combined the average junior’s SAT score went from 924 to 950. Superintendent of Schools Carol Merlone and Assistant Superintendent Joseph DiBacco attributed the increase to several factors particularly a Saturday SAT prep class funded by the Alliance Grant, manageable class sizes and near perfect attendance during the SAT test on a school day.
