Joe Ganim is already hedging his bets in case the Democratic nominating convention in two weeks doesn’t go his way. Ganim, Bridgeport Mayor and Democratic candidate for governor, filed papers at the Office of the Secretary of the State to launch his petition drive, if he doesn’t get the 15 percent of delegate votes he needs to make it onto the primary ballot in August. It’s not that Ganim is skipping the convention, like some of his competitors. His petition drive is more of a backup plan. “We are confident of obtaining 15 percent of the delegates at the state convention,” Ganim said. “By collecting petition signatures, we will insure our place on the primary ballot if certain party insiders manipulate the convention rules.
