BRIDGEPORT - Monday night April 2nd will be an important step in Mayor Joe Ganim’s gubernatorial bid. Beginning at 6:30 p.m. the newly-elected Democratic Town Committee — 90 members, quite a few loyal to Ganim and his close ally, party chairman Mario Testa — meet to select delegates to the state nominating convention and for the 4th Congressional District and multi-town 22nd and 23rd state Senate districts. The Democrats’ state convention in May is the key event for Ganim. The mayor is hoping to receive the 15 percent of the total delegate vote needed to walk out of there and mount a primary against whomever the party nominates for governor. Bridgeport has 93 delegates — the second highest amount behind New Haven.
