BRIDGEPORT -- Housatonic Community College is one of 13 Connecticut schools to receive a state grant of $11,000 to help address a growing opioid problem in the state. The grant will run through April 2018 and will be used to increase awareness and reduce stigma of opioid abuse. The funds will also be used to broaden expertise of the issue and increase access to support networks for treatment and recovery. Housatonic faculty and staff have started receiving training in the use of Narcan as well as the safe disposal of opioids. State statistics show that between 2012 and 2016 there were 451accidental death associated with drug overdose in the 11 communities within Housatonic’s service region.
