Candidates say Bassick election called off

BRIDGEPORT — A controversial parent election scheduled for Friday at Bassick High School has been called off, according to two of the candidates running for president. Albert Benejan, the current president of the Bassick Parent Teacher Student Organization said school officials notified him Thursday afternoon that the election will be put off until the spring. Bassick Principal Byron Williams had arranged for the December 1 election, saying Benejan’s two-year term was up. The election was to be held from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the school. Benejan insist his term ran until March 2018 and that a committee of students, staff and parents at Bassick — not the principal should control the election.
