Bridgeport police chief questioned at CONECT assembly

BRIDGEPORT — City Police Chief Armando Perez said he was expecting a small gathering. But the Congregations Organized for a New Connecticut assembly Thursday night was anything but small. The meeting room of the Islamic Community Center — which hosted the event — was filled to the brim for CONECT’s “We’ll Rise” Assembly which began around 7:45 p.m. More than 200 community members from Norwalk to New Haven occupied all the available seats and spilled over onto the sides of the room against the walls. CONECT is a broad-based community organization composed of 25 churches, synagogues, temples and mosques from New Haven and Fairfield counties. Thursday marked six years since the organization was founded in Bridgeport in 2011.
