New Haven — Students from Jettie S. Tisdale School in Bridgeport took first place in the inaugural Twin City Classic debate, held Jan. 25. Hosted at Yale University by New Haven Urban Debate League, the tournament was organized by Ron Rapice, a Bridgeport teacher and director of the Bridgeport Public Schools Debate League. After battling in debates for three rounds against students from New Haven’s Betsy Ross Magnet School, Tisdale eighth graders Anneliese Ovalle and Lindsey Mohammed won the final round. In the final round the students debated if illegal immigrants should be entitled to tuition benefits.
