DERBY-A two-hour sitdown Monday over a July 3 verbal encounter between police and a group of youths following the annual Derby-Shelton fireworks display did not sit well with the head of the Valley NAACP or one of the boys’ mother. Now Greg Johnson, who heads the Valley NAACP is seeking a full-fledged probe into alleged racism in the local police department. “Although I appreciate the gesture of the investigation, I take the outcome as an insult to the youth and their families,” Johnson said Monday. “Derby tax-payers and to our community efforts to build mutually respectful, trusting relationships with the administration and the police department in Derby.
