BRIDGEPORT — With some in the community calling for a public forum with the three finalists for police chief, Mayor Joe Ganim has instead offered a luncheon meeting. Invitations for Thursday’s hastily-convened midday event went out Tuesday to select community leaders, including the Rev. Cass Shaw, head of the Council of Churches of Greater Bridgeport. The council is part of a coalition that has been pushing for policing reforms and been critical of Acting Police Chief Armando “A.J.” Perez, a close friend of Ganim’s and one of the three finalists for a five-year contract. Perez is competing against Bridgeport Police Capt. Roderick Porter and New Haven Assistant Chief Luiz Casanova.
