Negron shooting in Bridgeport divides Ganim and Lamont at debate

FAIRFIELD — The fatal police shooting of 15-year-old Jayson Negron in Bridgeport prompted an emotional exchange between the two Democratic candidates for governor Thursday, with Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim accusing Ned Lamont of “politicizing” the incident. With the family and friends of Negron present at a New Haven forum Wednesday, Lamont, the party’s endorsed candidate, suggested that Ganim should “stand up and take responsibility,” seeming to refer broadly to the incident and its aftermath. “I took an affront to my opponent’s comments that seemed to inflame a very difficult situation,” said Ganim Thursday at a debate hosted by Hearst Connecticut Media, Sacred Heart University and WSHU radio, at the university.
