Republican New Britain mayor Erin Stewart qualified for a state elections grant to fund her lieutenant governor campaign, the state elections commission announced. Stewart submitted her application last Friday, the deadline to do so, having raised more than $30,000 in qualifying contributions since July 1. “We hit a home run, literally, figuratively, you name it,” Stewart told her supporters in a Facebook Live announcement from the New Britain Bees stadium Wednesday. Stewart dropped out of the governor’s race to run for lieutenant governor on the eve of the Republican convention in May, and had to restart her fundraising efforts from zero. Stewart will face state Sen.
