BRIDGEPORT — Firefighters worked quickly in Friday afternoon’s heat to extinguish a tractor trailer on fire. Within about 10 minutes of fire units getting to the site of the truck on fire, the flames were out. A Bridgeport police officer was the first to spot the truck fire and reported it to dispatch around 2:30 p.m., saying the tractor trailer was “fully engulfed” in flames at the off ramp near Wordin Avenue and Cherry Street. In less than three minutes, the first fire engine was at the scene and confirmed there was a tractor trailer on fire at the bottom of the off ramp. Firefighters asked dispatch to call United Illuminating as a precaution since the truck was under power lines.
