All state beaches will be open this weekend. That includes Sherwood Island in Westport, Silver Sands in Milford, Hammonasset in Madison, Squantz Pond in New Fairfield and Rocky Neck in Niantic. Earlier this week after days of heavy rain, several towns closed their beaches. Fairfield announced Friday morning that all its coastal beaches, closed on Thursday, are now open. Lake Mohegan will remain closed on Friday. In Milford, Fort Trumbull and Deerfield beaches remain closed. Both will have the water tested on Friday and the status will be determined on Saturday. Residents can call the health department on Saturday at (203) 783-3285 to learn the status. The forecast: Saturday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms.
