DANBURY — A serious head-on collision late Friday night left three people seriously injured, officials said Saturday. Two large sport utility vehicles collided around 11:45 p.m. at the intersection of Newtown Road and Old Shelter Rock Road. Fire officials said three people were trapped in the SUVs and had to be extricated by emergency response personnel. Danbury firefighters and Danbury Hospital emergency medical services personnel worked together to extricate the three people who were trapped. “All three victims were removed from the wreckage ... and transported to the hospital,” fire officials said. Police closed Newtown Road for about two hours while investigating the crash.
