NORWALK — By an unanimous 31-0 vote, the Norwalk Community College Senate has voted to ask that the Board of Regents stop efforts to consolidate the state’s 12 community colleges. The move comes after system President Mark Ojakian indicated that he and the Board of Regents that oversees the colleges plan to move forward with consolidation despite an initial rejection from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. The accrediting body noted a variety of concerns and told the state what was being proposed was not just a change but a whole new institution. “By moving forward President Ojakian and the BOR jeopardize the accreditation of the community colleges and the state universities,” reads the resolution.
