A bear was spotted Wednesday morning on the campus of the Bobcats. Quinnipiac University tweeted, “A bear was spotted at 8:15 this morning near the Harwood Gate on our Mount Carmel Campus. The bear was then seen returning to Sleeping Giant State Park. Please proceed with caution. If you see a bear on any of our campuses, please call Public Safety immediately at 203-582-6200.” With the semester over, most students have left campus. Nearby Sleeping Giant State Park, heavily damaged from the May 15 tornado, remains closed to the public. Within the last year, the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection reports that 14 bears were spotted in Hamden. That number is well below the 511 bears seen in Avon.
