Wizz Air, an airline that specializes in destinations to Eastern Europe, recently announced new service from Sikorsky Airport to Berlin, Frankfurt and Vienna. But don’t pack your bags just yet. The Sikorsky Airport being referred to here isn’t in Stratford, Conn., but Kiev, Ukraine. In March, the city council in the Ukrainian capital of Kiev — also known as Kyiv — renamed one of its international airports after Igor Sikorsky, the aviation engineer who founded Stratford-based Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. and also pioneered four-engine aircraft. Nearly 79 years ago, on a spot where the vast, shuttered Avco-Lycoming plant now sits, Ukrainian native Igor I.
