BRIDGEPORT — A “suspicious” early morning fire at a Bridgeport bar and restaurant is under investigation by state police, according to a city fire official. The Bridgeport Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at Ventura Bar and Restaurant, 1801 Barnum Avenue, around 6 a.m. Saturday. The 911 caller, who lives in apartments in the second floor above the restaurant, told dispatchers that she heard the sound of shattered glass before she noticed smoke coming from the restaurant. Fire officials said that all residents escaped the building without injuries. The Red Cross has been contacted about finding temporary shelter for those displaced.
