With warm weather on the horizon, New Englanders are probably dusting off their barbecues and planning some weekend grilling, or possibly planning to spend some time basking in the glow of an outdoor fire pit or another outdoor convenience. But before bringing out portable appliances and firing up the propane grill, the Propane Gas Association of New England cautions that such devices can be dangerous. According to the National Fire Protection Association, between 2009 and 2013, fire departments in the United States responded to an average of 8,900 home fires involving grills, hibachis, or barbecues per year.
