HARTFORD - The General Assembly’s House Democratic leadership is looking for ways to reduce the cost of electronic highway tolls for state residents. House Speaker Joe Aresimowicz, D-Berlin, said numerous options are on the table, including E-ZPass discounts for commuters and an income tax reduction through a new transportation credit. "You can’t just toll people from out of state but we can offer reductions," Aresimowicz, referring to state residents who commute on a regular basis. The speaker said lawmakers are also looking at including a reduction to the state gas tax into the toll legislation, noting the break would take effect when tolls are implemented some two years from now.
