DEEP: What to do with wild ‘orphan’ animals

What you do when you encounter a small animal that appears abandoned by its mother? Or a small bird that’s fallen from its nest? Or perhaps a wild animal that appears injured? On Thursday, the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection sent out a list of dos and don’ts when dealing with Connecticut’s wild creatures. DEEP said in a release, “Spring and summer are busy times for people and animals. Many animals are setting up territories, building nests, or finding den sites to give birth and raise their young. At the same time, people are spending more time outdoors and the chances are greater that someone may come across a young bird or mammal that may appear to be orphaned or injured.
