HARTFORD — Minutes before his confirmation hearing in a key legislative committee, conservative Republican lawmakers on Monday announced opposition to Supreme Court Justice Andrew J. McDonald’s chief-justice nomination. Lawmakers calling themselves the conservative caucus, including Rep. Vincent Candelora, R-North Branford, deputy House minority leader, said they would oppose McDonald - who joined the court in January, 2013 - because of a lack of experience on the bench. But opposition is likely to extend to political and philosophical opposition to McDonald, a former Democratic state senator from Stamford and former legal adviser to Gov. Dannel P. Malloy.
