Colchester boy’s death linked to flu

A Colchester 6-year-old has died from complications of the flu, making him at least the third child in the state to die of flu-related illness this season. According to his obituary on the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home web site, DeMarcus Stanley White, 6, died Feb. 21 from “consequences of influenza.” His death comes within a week of that of Emma Splan, 6, of Norwalk, who died Feb. 18, of flu complications, and roughly a month after the death of 10-year-old Nico Mallozzi of New Canaan from the disease. In Connecticut, 97 people have died from flu-related illness this season as of Feb. 17, according to the state Department of Public Health.
