Captain transfered out of detective bureau

BRIDGEPORT - Ten months after being appointed the first African American to head of the Bridgeport Police Department’s detective bureau, Capt. Roderick Porter has been transferred back to the city’s Office of Community Services. “He requested that he be transferred back there,” said Police Chief Armando Perez. “I have been pushing this community police initiative and he wanted to be involved in that.” The Office of Community Services oversees police services in the schools as well as community outreach, neighborhood and business watches. Porter had been commander of the office until he was tapped to head the detective bureau last April by the chief.
