It seems that, when it comes to those they care about, most people can be wildly optimistic, even in the face of bad news. A new study by Yale University researchers backs up the idea people are willing to be overwhelmingly positive about their fortunes or those of a loved one — regardless of pitfalls such as disease or financial hardship. However, the research team, which also included members from the University of Oxford, found that most people are only this optimistic about the fates of strangers who possess certain admirable attributes.
