WEST HAVEN — A New London woman is facing charges after she rear-ended a police cruiser and injured an officer, police said. A West Haven police officer was in the middle of a routine traffic stop on Derby Avenue around 7 p.m. Friday night when police said an intoxicated driver struck the police cruiser from behind. Police said that the force of the crash pushed the police cruiser forward, striking the side of the officer in the process. The officer was able to avoid serious injuries by jumping a split second before the cruiser struck him, police said. The officer only suffered minor injuries, according to police reports.
