Klarides hints at run for governor

Themis Klarides sounded unimpressed with the current gubernatorial field Tuesday, the strongest signal yet that Connecticut’s top Republican female office holder could soon jump into the crowded race herself. But with the GOP just four seats away from taking control of the House, a run for governor would mean giving up a chance to become the first woman from her party to serve as speaker. That’s the political calculus that has been weighing on the House GOP leader from Derby for more than six months, leaving both allies and rivals in limbo. “I think it will take a certain kind of candidate to win a general election in Connecticut and I’m still looking for that candidate,” Klarides told Hearst Connecticut Media.
