BRIDGEPORT — A city man who was known as the leader of a gang that tormented Bridgeport’s West Side more than 10 years ago was sentenced Monday to six years and four months in prison, the Department of Justice said. Robert “Pookie” Bowens, 34, of Bridgeport, will serve his prison term, followed by three years of supervised release, for illegally possessing a firearm as a previously convicted felon. On April 22, 2017, Connecticut State Police stopped a vehicle on Interstate-95 in Bridgeport, which the DOJ said was operated by Bowens. He attempted to flee from state troopers after they found several illegal items in his vehicle during a consented motor vehicle search.
