MONROE - A convicted felon has been arrested after police said he tried to purchase a hunting rifle at a store here. Michael Burgos, 57, of East Main Street, Bridgeport, was charged with criminal attempt to possess a firearm by a felon and making a false statement. He was released after posting $5,000 bond. Police said Burgos, who has a lengthy criminal record including assault on a police officer, attempted to purchase a Smith and Wesson rifle from a gun store here using a Connecticut hunting license. On the purchase form he stated he was not a convicted felon. However, when the store clerk checked the state firearm licensing database, police said he found Burgos was ineligible to purchase a firearm because of his criminal record.
