Republicans propose state sales tax cut, setting up competing tax-relief plans in election year

A week after Gov. Ned Lamont ordered $73 million to expand tax credits for low-income workers, Republicans in the state Senate on Tuesday proposed a yearlong cut in the state’s sales tax, to give about $250 per family.
