Stamford Health set to offer COVID-19 vaccine

STAMFORD — Stamford Health said it plans to begin offering the COVID-19 vaccine to seniors 75 and older next week in partnership with the city.

In a news release Friday, the health care provider said they will begin “opening vaccination ability to additional priority groups on Monday, January 18.”

“Currently, the individuals included in Phase 1b are individuals from the general public over age 75, as well as other essential workers outlined by the state,” the release said.

The state has been vaccinating those 75 and older who do not live in a long-term care facility this week. On Thursday, the state launched a website and phone number where people could register for an appointment.

Several hospital systems have also been registering people for a vaccine appointment through their website. Yale New Haven Health announced similar plans Friday as well, and said their clinics would open next week.

“Our partnership with Stamford Health will make sure the COVID-19 vaccine reaches as many residents as possible — as quickly as possible,” Stamford Mayor David Martin said in a statement. “Every day this pandemic continues we risk the lives of our neighbors, friends, and loved ones. We must use every resource available to us to ramp up the number of vaccinations administered per day for the health and safety of Stamford’s community.”

The vaccinations will start at the Bennett Medical Center Campus in the Wheeler Building.

The city and health care provider are planning to “rapidly expand” vaccinations, “including vaccinating teachers,” but did not say when that would begin.
