Member of Bysiewicz staff tests positive for COVID-19

A member of Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz’s staff has tested positive for COVID-19, her office announced Friday night.

In a news release, Adam Joseph, Bysiewicz’s chief of staff said the staff member was tested for the coronavirus Thursday and received the positive result Friday.

Bysiewicz was in contact with the person who tested positive and will isolate after testing negative on Thursday

“Since the start of the pandemic, we have taken steps to limit the number of staff working in the office and have encouraged staff members to telework,” Joseph said in a statement. “But this is another reminder that we all must continue to take precautions to defeat the spread of COVID-19. It’s critical that we continue to wear a mask, wash our hands, watch our distance, and get vaccinated when eligible.”

The staff member, who was not identified, is not experiencing symptoms and will quarantine at home for the next 14 days, according to the release

It is the first known case of COVID-19 in Bysiewicz’s office.

Those who were in close contact with the staff member who tested positive are being traced and will isolate.

“Twice-weekly testing continues for the Lt. Governor and her staff and there are no additional positive test results within the office,” the release said.
