Mayor, city officials to meet with North End residents

BRIDGEPORT — North End residents are invited to a community meeting on public safety scheduled for Oct. 24, 6 p.m. in the John Winthrop School gymnasium.

City Councilwoman Michelle Lyons, who helped organize the event with several colleagues, said representatives from the police, fire, zoning, public facilities, health and traffic departments will be present to answer questions. She said Mayor Joe Ganim, who is seeking re-election, will also be present.

The meeting is being held as city officials and Sacred Heart University, just over the border in Fairfield, dispute the impact the latter’s student have on the North End and whether Bridgeport’s regulations should be changed for students renting private homes.
