Housatonic to offer Carnegie STEM teacher training

BRIDGEPORT - Housatonic Community College will offer training to teachers looking to improve their STEM education using a nationally acclaimed process.

An initial workshop,in the Carnegie STEM Excellence Pathwat, will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday November 9th at the Beacon Hall Event Center at Housatonic, located at 900 Lafayette Blvd. in Bridgeport, CT.

The six-hour program cost is $150.

In the ‘Emerging Workshop,’ participants will work together to create an action plan to put into place at their schools and learn to understand high-quality STEM education, reflect on current conditions of STEM education in their districts and identify key priority areas for improvement.

Housatonic has become a certified Carnegie STEM Excellence Pathway Provider. The only community college in the nation to offer this training,

The full Pathway program includes three sessions, all run by Housatonic educators trained by facilitated by the Carnegie Science Center.

A follow-up Processing Workshop will take place early next year for participants to review their progress and identify further support and resources for achieving goals. In the final session, the ‘Advancing Workshop,’ participants meet one-on-one with HCC educators,to reflect on their plan implementation.

Advant said Housatonic offers more than 40 associate degree or certificate options under the Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math disciplines.
