Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke gave the appearance of honest broker in holding the line against the Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan tribes in their effort to build a new casino in East Windsor. But Zinke may have had some ulterior motives in withholding approval of Connecticut’s deal with the tribes to build a competitor to MGM’s casino in nearby Springfield, Mass. According to the Washington Post, the Interior Department’s inspector general is looking into whether lobbying by MGM and the two senators from its home state, Nevada, may have improperly influenced Zinke. The rangy former Navy SEAL, who represented Montana in the House before President Donald Trump appointed him, already was in hot water over exorbitant travel expenses.
