Unions took a hit from the U.S. Supreme Court Wednesday morning with a decision that divided Connecticut politicians along stark party lines. The court decided 5-4 — that government workers who choose not to join unions can not be required to help pay for collective bargaining. The ruling means public unions across the country could lose millions of dollars and ultimately become less effective. Democrats and union leaders across the board decried the decision, saying it undermines the rights of public workers. “Make no mistake, this decision is about more than just public sector unions - it’s about chipping away at the entire labor movement,” said U.S. Sen.
