Uber driver seeks probation in sex case

BRIDGEPORT - An Uber driver, accused of groping a female passenger, has applied for a pre-trial probation program. Wael Salem, 50, of Linsley Lake Road, Branford, who is charged with fourth-degree sexual assault, third-degree assault and disorderly conduct, filed an application Thursday in Superior Court here for accelerated rehabilitation. Accelerated rehabilitation is available to nonviolent offenders. Under the program Salem would not plead guilty to the charges but would be placed on up to two years’ probation. If he commits no other crimes during the probation the charges against him will be dismissed.
