Veteran Greenwich state Sen. L. Scott Frantz says that he rejected Supreme Court Justice Andrew J. McDonald’s bid to become chief justice because of his “activism” and his stances on the role of the high court. In a statement late Tuesday, nearly eight hours after the 19-16 Senate vote ended McDonald’s candidacy, Frantz noted that McDonald was unable to receive unanimous support from majority Democrats in the General Assembly. “Today I cast a ‘No’ vote regarding the nomination of Justice Andrew McDonald to become the chief justice of the Connecticut Supreme Court, after he received an unfavorable report from the Judiciary Committee and the failure to achieve full support of his own party,” Frantz said.
