BRIDGEPORT — Mayor Joe Ganim, a Democrat running for governor, offered a strong, though last minute, public endorsement Tuesday of making Andrew McDonald chief justice of the Supreme Court. “Supreme Court Justice McDonald has already proven himself quite capable of handling complex legal issues in a competent, professional manner. He is more than qualified to serve as chief justice,” Ganim said in a statement. “He is, in fact, that rare jurist who understands how the cases ruled on by the justice system and arguments about those cases are not merely academic -- they impact the lives of real people in Connecticut trying to put food on the table every day.
