State asks low-incomes communities to join Opportunity Zone for new investments

HARTFORD — The state is seeking applications from Connecticut towns to join a federal Opportunity Zone program, which will target funding for development in low-income areas in exchange for tax incentives for investors. Opportunity Zone communities could receive investments in commercial projects, transportation development, affordable housing, or energy efficiency or renewable energy proposals, among others. The program was established by Congress in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that was passed last year.
