As the first month of 2018 nears its end, gyms throughout the region are reporting higher membership turnouts even as the competition continues to grow. The start of the new year usually brings a renewed view on health and wellness for many people, leading to a spike in signups. According to the Will Hernandez, general manager of LA Fitness in Trumbull, this year was no exception. “January is like the Super Bowl for the fitness industry,” Hernandez said. “It’s the time of the year that everyone is waiting for, and everyone wants to get (going on) their New Year’s resolution or start getting in shape for the summer.” According to Hernandez, starting off a new year on a positive note typically sets the tone for membership numbers.
