Blumenthal promises fight for reproductive rights

HARTFORD — U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal on Monday vowed to fight for women’s reproductive rights, in the face of a pending Senate debate scheduled for later in the day that would outlaw abortions for fetuses that are more than 20-weeks-old. During a news conference in the State Capitol complex, advocates noted that in many cases of later-term abortions, the life and constitutional protections of women are at-risk. The bill passed the House in October. “I will spare no effort to defeat this 20-week abortion ban,” Blumenthal said. “This measure should really not be before the United States Senate. We are here to say hands off women’s health care. It is shameful and disgraceful that this measure should be before the Congress.
