What we know about the two obscure Bridgeport campaign workers charged with election fraud

BRIDGEPORT — Of the four suspects charged with election fraud related to absentee ballots during the 2019 mayoral race, two are prominent names and faces: City Councilman Alfredo Castillo and local Democratic Party Vice-Chair Wanda Geter-Pataky.

And then there are Josephine Edmonds and Nilsa Heredia who, along with Geter-Pataky, were also charged with witness tampering.

Unlike Castillo and Geter-Pataky, Edmonds and Heredia are virtually unknown, even within Bridgeport's political circles.

"Never heard of them. Never," said Christine Bartlett-Josie, a New Haven-based political consultant who has been involved in several Bridgeport campaigns. "First time I'm seeing them. Don't recognize their faces at all."

Lissette Colon is also someone who knows her way around Bridgeport politics, having worked on or run campaigns here including John Gomes' failed bid for mayor.

“Nobody seems to know who they are or have a recollection," she said Thursday. "I want to know myself."

Those are not unusual reactions, based on a series of interviews conducted by Hearst Connecticut Media. Edmonds and Heredia seem to be good examples of the low-level, inconspicuous political grunts crucial to helping candidates win races in Bridgeport and gain the power and name recognition they themselves lack.

Edmonds has not responded to requests for comment. Heredia has declined comment until she has an attorney.

"They just go and do the work," said Constance Vickers, a top aide to Mayor Joe Ganim who also does political consulting locally and elsewhere in...
